rcb1New Delhi, Monday, May 23 – At Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Daredevils were slated to fight for a place in the play-offs. At a neutral venue for both teams, it was easy to see massive support of the fans who turned up in impressive numbers to cheer for favorite squads and players.

Team DD had wicket keeper Quinton de Kock, Rishabh Pant, Karun Nair, Sanju Samson, Sam Billings, Carlos Brathwaite, Chris Morris, Pawan Negi, Amit Mishra, Jayant Yadav and the captain Zaheer Khan. Those on Bench were Mayank Agarwal, Imran Tahir,Shahbaz Nadeem, Pawan Suyal, Akhil Herwadkar, Mohammed Shami, Chama Milind, Shreyas Iyer, Pratyush Singh, Mahipal Lomror, Khaleel Ahmed, Jean-Paul Duminy and Nathan Coulter-Nile.

The other side, Royal Challengers Bangalore, was strong on paper and field as well having Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers, Lokesh Rahul, Shane Watson, Sachin Baby, Stuart Binny, Chris Jordan, Sreenath Aravind, Iqbal Abdulla and Yuzvendra Chahal in the playing XI, which was led by Virat Kohli. Cricketers who hoped for victory of the team while sitting on their seats were David Wiese, Harshal Patel, Mandeep Singh, Vikas Tokas, Travis Head, Akshay Karnewar, Sarfaraz Khan, Praveen Dubey, Tabraiz Shamsi, Parvez Rasool, Varun Aaron, Vikramjeet Malik, Abu Nechim, Kane Richardson and Kedar Jadhav.

RCB won the toss and invited the rivals to bat first. The invitation was not accepted in a way which could have benefited Delhi Daredevils, who just managed to total 138 runs in 20 overs losing 8 wickets. The opener Quinton de Kock was the only one who tried his best to give DD a good start. 60 runs off 52 balls (4 x 5 and 6 x 1) from him might have increased stress on the opponents had other players of the group were able to confidently face bowling attack of Royal Challengers Bangalore. Rishabh Pant was dismissed by Aravind at 1 run. Karun Nair hit a six but soon Chahal sent him back to the pavilion the moment he totaled 11 runs, Sanju Samson’s 17-run knock comprised a six and four. Sam Billings was out at 4 runs. Pawan Negi once again failed to prove his significance in the squad and lost his wicket at a score of 6. Carlos Brathwaite pocketed just a single. Chris Morris’ not out innings of 27 off 18 balls (4  x 3) Jayant Yadav was run out at 5 in an attempt to run in speed.

DD breathed a sigh of relief when opener Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers were out at the scores of 1 and 6, respectively. Virat Kohli, on the other hand, was determined to take his team in top four. His not out innings of 54 off 45 balls comprised 6 runs. Lokesh Rahul was dismissed at 38 runs (4 x 4 and 6 x 1). Shane Watson threw his wicket when batting at 14 runs. Stuart Binny. Kohli wanted big strikes to finish the match but did not succeed to attain that and took a single. However, Binny did what was needed and hit a couple of 4s.  RCB beat DD by six wickets, achieving the target in 18.1 overs. Kohli was declared ‘Man of the Match’ another time for his splendid performance.
